School years by country start in different months, so a family’s move date shapes which Florida grade and term a child joins. Florida Statutes s.1003.21 uses 1 September as the age date for kindergarten and grade one, and the three South Florida districts start their 2026-27 year between 10 and 13 August. The Landing Plan dates each step.
How does Florida decide kindergarten and grade one entry by age?
Florida Statutes s.1003.21 makes a child who turns 5 on or before 1 September eligible for public kindergarten that school year. A child who turns 6 on or before 1 September and has completed kindergarten progresses under the district’s student progression plan.
District admissions teams confirm each child’s placement; Le Strand dates the family timetable around their decisions.
